Tips for Scorers
It is vital that there is consistency in scoring as the scorebooks are used to collect players' statistics. These statistics are used to calculate averages and thus award trophies.
The score is recorded in three places: 1- the batsman's line or sundries 2- the running total 3- the bowler's analysis or box
No Ball when no runs are scored - recorded as a circle with a dot in it in the bowler's analysis. This is added to the runs against the bowler, in the sundries, and added to the running total.
No Ball when runs are scored - recorded with the number of runs marked inside the circle in the bowler's analysis. The total is added to the running total i.e. one for the sundry plus whatever the batsmen score. The runs that the batsman score are written in the batsmen's line and one run is recorded in the sundries.
Wides when no runs are scored -- recorded as a cross in the bowler's analysis, in the sundries and added to the running total.
Wides when runs are scored -- the number of runs is recorded inside the cross in the bowler's analysis. The total is added to the running total i.e. one for the sundry plus whatever the batsmen run. (Wides are not credited to the batsman but are added to runs against the bowler.)
Byes/ Leg Byes - recorded as a dot ball in the bowler's analysis, recorded in the sundries and added to the running total. These are not recorded against the bowler or credited to the batsmen.
Fall of Wicket -- recorded as W in the bowler's analysis, // in the batsman's line, and details in the `fall of wicket' section of score page.
At the end of each over, add up the runs (including wides and no balls not byes and leg byes) in the bowler's analysis and mark the progressive total (including byes and leg byes) in the over column.
Please record players responsible for taking catches and stumpings. Hit wicket and stumpings are credited to the bowler, runouts are not.
